The 9th of Rabi al-Awwal is a day of great status for the Household of infallibility
and purity, peace be upon them, as they consider this day one of the greatest Eids. This is
evident as the Imams, peace be upon them, used to hold celebration gatherings. Not only
that, but they used to order their Shia and their followers to take that day as Eid and
celebrate. The status of that day has reached a very high position that the Imams, peace
be upon them, has identified that day as ‘The second Ghadeer’, considering that Eid al-
Ghadeer is considered the greatest Eid.
To prove the greatness of that day, we will mention this one hadith reported by
the great scholar, Allamah Muhammad Baqir al-Majlisi, may Allah bless his soul:
“On the author of Muhammad ibn al-Alaa al-Wasiti and Yahya ibn Muhammad ibn
Jareeh al-Bagdadhi, they said: ‘We engaged in debates over the situation of Ibn al-
Khattab and became confused over this matter so all of us went to Ahmad ibn Ishaq al-
Qomi, a companion of Imam Abi Hassan al-Askari (Imam al-Hadi), peace be upon him,
in the city of Qom. We knocked on his door, and a young Iraqi girl answered the door.
We asked her about him, she responded: ‘He is busy, as today is a day of Eid.’
We said: ‘Subhan’Allah! The Shia have four Eids: al-Adha, al-Fitr, al-Ghadeer, and
Fridays.’
She said: ‘Ahmad ibn Ishaq narrates from his Master Abi Hassan, Ali Ibn Muhammad al-
Askar (al-Hadi), peace be upon them, that this day is a day of Eid, and it is among the
greatest of Eids for the Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them, and for their followers.’
We said: ‘Ask him for permission to enter his house, and tell him where we are’.
She then went inside and told him. He came out wearing nice clothes, wiping his face.We criticized him for this. He said to us: ‘Nothing is on you, I was doing ghusul as today
is a day of Eid.’
We asked: ‘Today is a day of Eid?’
He said: ‘Yes.’ And it was the 9th of Rabi al-Awwal. He welcomed us into his house and
sat us on a cushion.
He said: ‘I have went to visit Our Master Abi Hassan al-Askari (al-Hadi), peace be upon
him, with a group of believers, just like you came to me, in Samarra. We asked
permission to enter his house and he granted us permission. We entered his house, and it
was the 9th of Rabi al-Awwal. He had instructed all of his servants to wear new clothes.
We asked him: ‘May our mothers and fathers be sacrificed for you O’ Son of Allah’s
Messenger, is this a day of happiness for the Ahlulbayt?’
He said: ‘And is there a day greater than this day for the Ahlulbayt? My father (Imam al-
Jawad) has narrated to me:
That on 9th of Rabi al-Awwal, Huthayfah ibn al-Yaman entered upon my grandfather the
Holy Prophet, peace be upon him and his pure family. Huthayfah said: ‘I saw my Master
Amir al-Momineen with his two sons, Hassan and Hussain, peace be upon them, sitting
with the Holy Prophet, peace be upon him and his family, eating. The Prophet was
smiling at them, saying: ‘Eat! Glad tidings to you on the blessings associated with this
day, as this day is where Allah will take the soul of His enemy, and the enemy of your
grandfather, and fulfills the dua of your mother.
Eat! For this is a day where the acts of worship of your Shia and your lovers will be
accepted. Eat! For this is the day where Allah has said in the Quran: ‘So those are their houses,
desolate because of the wrong they have done.’4
Eat! For this the day where the man who hates your grandfather will perish.
Eat! For this is the day where the Pharaoh of my Ahlulbayt, their oppressor and usurper
will die.’
Huthayfah said: “O’ Messenger of Allah! Will there be someone from your companions
who will not respect the sacredness of your Ahlulbayt?”
The Prophet replied: “Yes O’ Huthayfah, a tyrant from among the hypocrites will
become the leader who will call the people to himself. He will deviate people, tamper the
book of Allah, change my Sunnah, disrespect his Imam after me, will make what is
impressible permissible, will spend the wealth of Allah on matters subjectively; he will
make me and make my brother and minister seem like liars; he will take from my
daughter what is rightfully hers which will cause her to make a dua against him that will
be answered on a day like this.”
Huthayfah said: “O’ Prophet, why don’t you make a dua against him now so that he may
perish during your lifetime?”
The Prophet answered: “O’ Huthayfah, I do not like to change what Allah has already
destined before He created all of this, but I have asked the Lord to make the day where he
is killed a day of superiority over the other days and that year will be a year of safety and
stability for my lovers, the Shia of my Ahlulbayt, and their lovers. Allah then sent a
revelation that said:
“O’ Muhammad, it has been destined by Me that you and your Ahlulbayt will bear the
trials and tribulations of the world; to bear the oppression of the hypocrites and the
usurpers who after you advised them, have betrayed you; and after you made them
happy, have upset you; and after you pleased them, have displeased you. So by My
Power, Might and Kingdom, I shall open 1000 doors of Hell Fire for those who take what
rightfully belongs to Ali, and I shall bestow upon him and his companions in such a
position in Hell that even Iblis will curse him. I shall make that hypocrite an example for
all the oppressors and enemies of the prophets and religion, and I shall throw them in
Hell Fire alongside their supporters as they are humiliated and regretful, kept in there
for eternity. O’ Muhammad, your successor won’t attain your status until he is subjected
to the oppression from the hypocrites and those who usurped his right that will dare to
change My words, attach a partner to Me, deviate people away from Me, makes himself a
leader upon the people, and commits disbelief. I have ordered My angels in all the seven
heavens to take this day as an Eid with your Shia and lovers, and they shall seek
forgiveness for your Shia and lovers from the children of Adam, and I have ordered the
deed writers to not record any mistakes or sins for three days in honour of you and your
successor. O’ Muhammad, I have made this day a day of Eid for you, your Ahlulbayt and
for those who followed them among the believers and their Shia. By My Glory, Highness
and Exaltedness, I love those who take this day as Eid. I shall grant intercession for his
family and relatives, and will bless him with wealth that will be enough for him and his
children, and I shall save them from Hell Fire, making the Shias thankful for the
blessings, their sins forgiven, and their deeds accepted.” Huthayfah said: “Then the Prophet stood up and entered the house of Umm Salamah and
I went home without having a doubt about the situation of that man until he became the
leader after the death of the Holy Prophet, peace be upon him and his family. Evilness
and disbelief returned, the people deviated from the religion. He became the king,
changed the Quran, burned the house of revelation and innovated in religion. He refused
the testimony of Amir al-Momineen, peace be upon him, and believed Fatima to be a liar;
he usurped Fadak, and pleased the Zoroastrians, Jews and Christians. He made the
beloved daughter of the Prophet upset and didn’t please her. He conspired to kill Amir
al-Momineen, peace be upon him. He showcased tyranny, made what is permissible
impressible and what is impressible, permissible. He sat on the pulpit of the Prophet,
peace be upon him and his family, oppressively and without any right. He made
allegations against Amir al-Momineen, peace be upon him, and didn’t take into account
his opinions and views.”
Huthayfah continues to say: “Allah has answered the Dua of my Lady, peace be upon
her, upon that hypocrite. He was killed by a man, may Allah have mercy on him. I
entered the house of Amir al-Momineen after that event to congratulate him for the death
of that hypocrite and his upcoming eternal punishment.”
Amir al-Momineen said: “O’ Huthayfah, do you remember the day where you entered
upon the Prophet, peace be upon him and his family, and found me and his grandsons
eating with him and he told you about the greatness of that day?”
Huthayfah said: “Yes O’ Brother of the Holy Prophet.”
Imam Ali said: “By God, that day is today which caused happiness to enter the hearts of
the family of the Prophet, and I know 72 names associated with that day.” Huthayfah said: “O’ Amir al-Momineen, I would love it if you mention those names.”
Imam Ali, peace be upon him, said: “This is the Day of Resting, Day of Relief from
Tragedies, The Second Eid al-Ghadeer, The Flattening of the Scales, The Day of
Goodness, The Day Where No Sin Will Be Recorded, Day of Guidance, Day of Wellness,
Day of Blessings, Day of Revenge, Day of the Greatest Eid, Day Where The Duas Are
Answered, Day of The Greatest Stance, Day of Additions, Day of Conditions, Day When
Wearing Black Will Be Stopped, Day of Regret For The Oppressor, Day Where
Oppression Will Be Broken, Day of Treating Worries, Day of Masks, Day of Showcasing
Capability, Day of Salutations, Day of the Joy of Shias, Day of Repentance, Day of
Divinity, Day of the Great Zakat, Day of the Second Eid al-Fitr, Day of Pleasing, Day of
Removing Evilness, Day of Accepting Deeds, Day of the Eid of Ahlulbayt, Day Where the
Children of Israel Were Saved, Day Where The Deeds of The Shia Will Be Accepted, Day

Mubahila, Day of Pride, Day of the Acceptance of Deeds, Day of Victory, Day Where
The Believer Will Prevail, Day Where The Secret Will Be Broadcasted, Day of the
Increased Number of Victories, Day of Courtliness, Day of Amusement, Day of Arrival,
Day of Sacrifice, Day of Exposing The Innovations, Day of Piety, Day of Peace, Day of
Sermons, Day of Worship and Day of Taking Ownership.” Huthayfah said: “I left the house of Amir al-Momineen, peace be upon him, and thought
to myself: ‘All I want from the rewards of doing good is from the virtue of this day.”
Muhammad ibn al-Alaa al-Hamadani and Yahya Ibn Muhammad ibn Jareeh said: “Each
one of us stood up and kissed Ahmed ibn Ishaq Ibn Saeed al-Qomi’s forehead and said:
‘Praise to the Lord that allowed us to meet you so you could inform us of the honour
associated with that day’. We left his house, and took this day as Eid.”
The Sayed said: “I have reported this Hadith from the handwritten narration by
Muhammad ibn Ali Ibn Muhammad Ibn Tay, may Allah have mercy on him. And we have
found similar Hadiths in other books so we depended on it; therefore, it is recommended
to celebrate on that day and showcase one’s happiness.”
