Shocking and outrageous justifications by the opponents concerning the attack on the house of the Hazrat Fatemah Zahra (sa), by the second caliph

1️⃣ Qadi Abdul Jabbar:

Threatening to burn the house of Fatimah was the legitimate right of Umar ibn Khattab, and there was no problem in it!

He states: Whatever has been mentioned regarding Umar and the burning of the house of Lady Zahra — if it is correct — does not invalidate or criticise Umar in any way, because he had the right to threaten those who refused to pledge allegiance in opposition to the Muslims.

📚 Al-Mughni fi Abwab al-Tawhid wa al-Adl – al-Imamah, vol. 20, p. …

2️⃣ Ibn Taymiyyah:

The attack on the house of Fatimah was to ensure that no public property was hidden inside it!

He writes: The most that can be said in this matter is that Abu Bakr suddenly entered the house of [Fatimah] to see whether any of the wealth of Allah — which was meant to be distributed among the people — was present there, so that he could return it to its rightful recipient.

📚 Minhaj al-Sunnah al-Nabawiyyah, vol. 8, p. 291

3️⃣ Abdul Aziz Dehlawi:

The house of Lady Zahra had become a gathering place for corrupt individuals, and in such a situation, observing courtesy was not necessary!

He argues: If the Noble Prophet (s.a.w.a) threatened to burn the houses of those who abandoned the congregational prayer — which is among the emphasised Sunnahs — then why should it be impermissible to threaten burning the houses in such a case of corruption, whose spark could endanger the entire Muslim community and the whole religion? If the Prophet (s.a.w.a) entered the house of Lady Zahra because of decorative curtains and pictures, and did not leave until they were removed — and even entered the House of Allah for the same reason — then if Umar ibn Khattab, due to the presence of corrupters in that house, and the planning of seditious schemes there, threatened to burn it, what sin could be held against him?

At most, it can be said that observing etiquette did not suit this form of threat. However, evident it becomes that in such grave matters, no one observes courtesy — as proven by the act of Amir with Ayesha the Siddiqah, who was undoubtedly the beloved wife of the Messenger (s.a.w.a), the mother of the believers, and worthy of veneration by all creation. Therefore, anything done by Umar in accordance with the act of the Ma'sum should not become a subject of criticism and reproach.

📚 Tuhfa Ithna Ashariyyah – Nasihat al-Mu'minin wa Fazihat al-Shayatin, p. 593

Shocking and outrageous justifications by Shibli Nu'mani concerning the attack on the house of the Hazrat Zahra (sa), by the second caliph

 Shibli Nu'mani:

By threatening to burn the house of Fatimah, Umar choked the sedition of Bani Hashim in its cradle!

He writes: Only Bani Hashim continued to insist on their claim; therefore, they would gather in the house of Lady Fatimah to consult among themselves. Umar intended to force Bani Hashim to pledge allegiance, but they refused to bow their heads before anyone except Ali — radiyallāhu ‘anhu. From the perspective of Dirayah Hadith, such conduct from Umar — known for sharp temperament — is not unexpected. Indeed, the actions he undertook in that highly sensitive period, with urgency and intensity, may have involved some excess; however, it must be understood that such sternness was meant to suppress sedition and uproot it. Had the conspiracies of Bani Hashim continued then, the structure of the Muslim community would have collapsed, and the civil wars that later occurred between Ali — karramallāhu wajhah — and Muawiyah would have taken place in that very era.

Who witnessed against Fatemah Zahra (sa) in the matter of inheritance?

(Qurb al-isnād (Arabic: قُرب الإسناد) is an an Imami hadith collection which is written by 'Abd Allah b. Ja'far al-Himyari, a Shiite scholar )

From Hanan bin Sadeer who said, Sadaqah bin Muslim asked Imam Sadiq (asws) while I was with him,

"Who witnessed against Fatema (sa) that She does not inherit from her father?"

Imam (asws) said, "A'ishah, Hafsah and man called Aus bin Hadasan from the tribe 'Bani Nadhr' testified in front of Abu Bakr that the Prophet (saww) said, "I am not inherited", and so they denied Fatemah (saw) her inheritance from Her Father (saww)."

Why Fatima Zahra (s.a.) preceded Ali (a.s.) in answering the oppressors during the attack

When the oppressors attacked the house of Hazrat Fatima Zahra (s.a.), they found themselves
confronting her (s.a.), rather than Ameerul Momineen, who was their real target.
The oppressor even mocked Ameerul Momineen (a.s.) by addressing Hazrat Fatima Zahra (s.a.):
What is wrong with your cousin? Why did he send you to answer the door as he sat behind the curtain?
She (s.a.) countered: It is your own oppression, you wretch that has forced me to come out thus and has bound you, as also every misguided deviator, with the argument (of personally answering the door).
  • Behaar al-Anwaar v 30 p 293
  • Awaalim al-Uloom v 11 part 2 p 605
By preceding Ameerul Momineen (a.s.), Hazrat Fatima Zahra (s.a.) wanted to signal to Muslims of all time the sheer oppression and deviation of the party that attacked her, despite her position as the daughter of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) and the Chief of all Women of Paradise.
When the oppressor learnt that it was Hazrat Fatima Zahra (s.a.) and NOT Ameerul Momineen (a.s.) behind the door, he should have withdrawn. But by forcibly entering the house even after this, he exposed his deep hatred for the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) and his infallible progeny, which he had kept concealed all along.

Janabe Fatima Zahra (s.a.) - The Criterion of Truth Part 1

Imam Bukhari has narrated a famous tradition from Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) in his Sahih, vol. 5, p. 96. Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) said,
          فَاطِمَةُ سَيِّدَةُ نِسَاءِ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ
“Janabe Fatima Zahra (s.a.) is the chief of all women of Paradise”

This tradition leaves no doubt that J. Zahra (s.a.) is the foremost woman of the universe. This is because the women of Paradise are special and chosen ones and J. Zahra (s.a.) is their chief and leader. Hence she excels all the women of the universe without exception.  J. Aasiya, J. Khadija, J. Maryam ….. All of them are the women of Paradise. J. Zahra (s.a.) is superior to all of them since she (s.a.)is their leader in Paradise.

Allah says about J. Maryam in the Holy Quran

And when the angels said, “O Maryam! Allah has chosen you and purified you and selected you from all the women of the worlds” [1]

J. Zahra (s.a.) is the leader of a pious, chaste and virtuous lady like J. Maryam (s.a.). This shows the exalted and lofty status of J. Zahra (s.a.). The famous research scholar of the AhleSunnah, J. Aaloosi mentions in his book “Tafseer-e-RoohulMa’na” on pg. 155 of, vol. 20 that, “J. Zahra (s.a.) is superior to J. Maryam (s.a.). According to the Holy Quran, J. Maryam (s.a.) is the chief of the women of the universe while J. Zahra (s.a.) is her leader.” The tradition of Sahih Bukhari too underlines this point.

The broken rib of Fatima Zahra (a.s) - Refuting Nawasib lies

This is a response to the 'un broken rib' film in which the nawasib provided clips of bakris and deviant scholars to speak on this issue. When we look in the shia muslims books, and the books of the bakris, we find numerous narrations and historical references regarding the oppression which took place against Fatema zahra(a.s).

Like usual though, the deviant bakri sect will try finding an escape route, and will call these narrations weak or fabricated. The biggest proof that Fatima zahra (a.s) was oppressed goes back to a narration regarding fadak, where she claimed her right to inheritance which was stole by Abu bakr (l.a) thus she died angry and stopped speaking to him. We may ask though is this the only reason? Well if we look at this logically, and at the evidence that exists, they all link back to the same narration in bukhari and they all highlight oppression and injustice done against her by the tyrants abu bakr and umar (l.a).

Are these References not sufficent for Muslims??

Setting fire to the house of Hazrat Fatemah (s.a.) is an evident truth narrated by the scholars of the Shiah sect. All Shiah scholars, compilers, traditionalists and historians are united on this point. One who denies the incident (regardless of his stature) or creates doubts in the minds of others is not even a Shiah, let alone a Shiah scholar.

This incident has been narrated by the Sunnis in their books. We have narrated the incident and traditions from the Sunnis sources so as to leave no doubt in the minds of unbiased readers. Our primary objective is to dispel the doubts and confusions that are apparent in some of the books of the Sunnis. Another objective is to expose the conspiracy of the leading personalities of the time to grievously harm the Prophet’s (s.a.w.a.) household, if not eliminate them completely. What we have not narrated, what has not been clearly highlighted in the books or has been omitted knowingly by the compilers is an independent discussion by itself.

We have presented only what has been narrated unambiguously in the books of the Sunnis.

1. Threatening to set the house on fire
According to some traditions:

Umar Ibn Khattaab threatened to set the house (of Hazrat Faatemah) on fire. We will first narrate from Ibn Abi Shaybah’s book Al-Musannif. It should be noted that Ibn Abi Shaybah was among the teachers of Bukhari. He passed away in 235 AH.

Ibne Abi Shaybah has recorded this incident with the chain of narrators on the authority of Zaid Ibn Aslam who narrates from his father Aslam. Aslam (Umar’s slave) relates:

‘When the people paid allegiance to Abu Bakr after the Prophet’s demise, Ali and Zubair used to visit Fatemaah’s house and consult with her in the matter. When Umar learnt of this, he proceeded to Fatemaaah’s house and said – O daughter of the Prophet, by Allah there is none more beloved to me than your father. And after your father there is none more beloved to me than you. By Allah (despite this) if these people gather at your house nothing will stop me from burning your house down.  [1]

Violating Hazrat Faatemah Zahra’s (s.a.) respect by barging into her house

It has been established in the preceding pages beyond a shadow of doubt that the caliph’s cohorts initially laid siege to Hazrat Faatemah’s (s.a.) house to intimidate the inmates and when that did not have the desired effect, they attacked the house by setting it aflame. In this way, the hooligans violated the sanctity of the house and that of its inmates about whom the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) had made innumerable recommendations, some of which have been outlined in the initial chapters. The attack and ensuing violation are established facts and none can raise any doubts whatsoever.
Even Ibne Taiymiyyah did not find anything objectionable as far as the veracity of the chain of incidents is concerned.
If there are still some people who doubt the attacks then they are worse than Ibne Taymiyyah who at least accepts their occurrence. And if some of the deniers include Shiahs, then it is a matter of regret how they can consider themselves as lovers of Ahle Bait (s.a.w.a.) while denying the wrongdoing of the Ahle Bait’s oppressors, a fact accepted by the Shiahs of the oppressors (i.e. Sunnis and Wahhabis)!
The attack was considered with such alacrity and ferocity that it makes one wonder what they were expecting to find over there. Were they expecting to find some wealth or property of Allah that had been embezzled by the inmates through recovery of which they sought proximity of Allah and His Prophet (s.a.w.a.)?![1]
Indeed, it was clear very soon to the oppressors the extent of their wrongdoing. That is why it is narrated that when Abu Bakr’s death was imminent, he confessed:
‘I do not feel remorse over any worldly affair save three actions which I regret performing. Likewise, I feel remorse over three actions which I abandoned while it would have been better if I had performed them. I wish I had sought the answers from the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) for three questions…’

Setting Fire to the House of the Infallibles (a.s.) - Autentic References

As highlighted earlier, for a long period of time the transmission of sensitive incidents and narrations was prohibited by the powers that were. Therefore, it is unreasonable to expect to find the complete incident of setting fire to Hazrat Faatemah’s house by those who perpetrated this heinous crime.
Apart from Bukhari and Muslim, it is unreasonable to expect even others scholar of the Sunnis to narrate such sensitive incidents. When these scholars have omitted narrations that are not even 10% as sensitive as the incident of setting fire to the house of Hazrat Faatemah (s.a.), then how can one expect to find details of the latter in their books?

Wrath of Fatima(a.s)

Fatimah (a.s.) passed away while being angry with Abu Bakr and Umar because they had deprived her of the inheritance left for her by her father, the Prophet (a.s.). Relying on the authority of `A'ishah, al-Bukhari quotes the latter as saying, "... Fatimah (a.s.) daughter of the Messenger of Allah (a.s.) was to receive the inheritance left for her from the fay' [property gained as a peace offering from a hostile party] which Allah had bestowed upon His Messenger (a.s.). Abu Bakr said to her, 'The Messenger of Allah (a.s.) had said, 'We [prophets] leave no inheritance; what we leave behind is charity;' therefore, Fatimah (a.s.) daughter of the Messenger of Allah (a.s.) became angry. She dissociated herself from Abu Bakr until she died. She lived for only six months after the death of the Messenger of Allah (a.s.)." `A'ishah adds saying, "And Fatimah (a.s.) demanded that Abu Bakr give her the share to which she was entitled of the inheritance of the Messenger of Allah (a.s.) from Khaybar, namely Fadak, and the Madinah charity, but Abu Bakr refused saying, 'I shall not leave out anything which the Messenger of Allah (a.s.) used to do.'"[1]

[1] Al-Bukhari, Sahih, Vol. 4, p. 208, in the book of khums in a chapter about obligations.
Her anger with Abu Bakr and Umar was so great that it prompted her to go as far as leaving a will with `Ali (a.s.) that Abu Bakr should not perform the funeral prayers for her after her demise, nor to even walk behind her coffin. Imam `Ali (a.s.) buried her pure body secretly at night as al-Bukhari states in his Sahih, relying on `A'ishah who said, "... Abu Bakr refused that anything should be paid to Fatimah (a.s.). Fatimah (a.s.), therefore, was extremely angry with him, so much so that she dissociated herself from him and never spoke to him until she died. She lived after the demise of the Prophet (a.s.) for six months. When she died, her husband buried her at night. Abu Bakr never called the adhan [to announce her death], nor did he perform the funeral prayers for her."[2]

Narration about oppressions from Sayyid Muhammed al-Mehdi al-Husaini al-Qazwini (d. 1300 A.H.)

The renown scholar and great sign, Sayyid Muhammed ibn al-Mehdi ibn al-Hasan al-Husaini al-Qazwini, one of the greatest scholars and major authorities of taqlid of his time, has said:

They were not satisfied with all of this, so they harassed Ali (A.S.) and Bani Hashim with regard to their oath of allegiance, setting the houses of the family of Muhammed (A.S.) ablaze. Fatima (A.S.) tried to act as a barrier between both parties but, when she could not stop them, and when she opened the door, they squeezed her with it, breaking her rib and causing her to miscarry al-Muhassan. They broke the sword of al-Zubayr in the house’s courtyard and handcuffed Ali (A.S.) with the suspenders of his own sword, leading him as they would a stray camel as indicated by al-Tabari, al-Waqidi, Ibn Jirayah (in his book titled Al-Noor), Ibn `Abd Rabbih, the compiler of the book titled Nafa’is al-Jawahir by Ibn Sahlawayh (who was inspector at public schools in Baghdad), `Omer ibn Shaybah and others. They did all of this after Ali (A.S.) refused for six months to swear the oath of allegiance (to Abu Bakr). Add to this how they deprived Fatima (A.S.) of the inheritance of her father, how they confiscated Fadak and all its orchards, how they rejected her argument and the testimony of Ali (A.S.) and both al-Hasan (A.S.) and al-Husain (A.S.) as well as Umm Ayman, how they tore to pieces her property title from the Trusted Prophet (A.S.) who was sent as mercy to the whole world, in addition to other behavior whereby they hurt Fatima (A.S.). They harassed her because she was mourning the death of her father (A.S.) till she had to resort to bayt al-ahzan, how she fell sick because of their treatment of her, how she was buried secretly, even her death while still being depressed as al-Bukhari and others clearly indicated. So, if all of this is so well proven...etc.[1]

Narration about oppressions from Sayyid Muhammed (A.S.) Qulli al-Naishapuri al-Hindi - The father of the author of `Abaqat al-Anwar

The father of the author of `Abaqat al-Anwar, says the following in his book titled Tashyeed al-Mata`in wherein he recorded scores of pages containing many texts the translation of which is as follows:

`Omer threatened to burn Fatima (A.S.), gathering firewood around her house as is narrated by trustworthy Sunni narrators and the most prominent of their reliable authorities and the greatest of their traditionists from the early generations and from the latter Ones (A.S.) such as al-Tabari, al-Waqidi, `Othman ibn Aba Shaybah, Ibn `Abd Rabbih, Ibn Jirayah, the compiler of Al-Mahasin and Anfas al-Jawahir, Ibn `Abd al-Birr ibn Aba Shaybah, al-Balathiri, Ibn `Abd al-Birr (author of Al-Ista`ab), Abu Bakr al-Jawahiri, author of the book titled Al-Saqifa, the judge Jamal ad-Din Wasil, Abul-Fida’ Isma`al ibn Ali (A.S.) ibn Mahmad (author of the book titled Al-Mukhtasar), Ibn Qutaybah, Ibrahim ibn `Abdullah al-Yamani al-Shafi`i (author of the book titled Al-Iktifa’), al-Sayyati (author of the book titled Jam` al-Jawami`, Mulla Ali al-Muttaqi (author of Kanz al-`Ummal) and Shah Wali-Allah al-Dahlawi..., etc.[1] Then he cited what these scholars have written. He also said that the burning of the house of al-Zahra’ (A.S.) has been narrated by many and is supported by authentic proofs recorded in Sunni books.

[1]Tashyeed al-Mata`in, Vol. 1, pp. 433-34 and scores before and after these pages all full of proofs and quotations. This book was written as a rebuttal to the book titled Al-Tuhfa al-Ithna `Ashariyya by al-Dahlawi.

Narration about oppressions from The virtuous researcher al-Khawajoo’i al-Mazandarani, one of the greatest Shi`a scholars (d. 1173 A.H.)

The virtuous researcher al-Khawajoo’i al-Mazandarani, one of the greatest Shi`a scholars of his time, has said the following in his dissertation titled Taraq al-Irshad (the venue of guiding):
As regarding their harming Fatima (A.S.), this is quite well known and is recorded in the Sunnis’ books. Abu Bakr sent some men to the house of the Commander of the Faithful (A.S.) when he refused to swear the oath of allegiance, setting it ablaze although Fatima (A.S.) and a group of Bani Hashim were inside it. They took Ali (A.S.) out and hit Fatima (A.S.), so she miscarried.
As regarding the answer of the Qawshaji wherein he says that Ali (A.S.) did not lax from swearing the oath of allegiance due to dissension or mutiny but to an excuse and to something which had then taken place, this answer prompts one to ask this question: “Had the matter been so, what prompted him to set his house to fire and take him out by force?!”
